BAVS/COVE Internship Scheme
Deadline: 9th November 2026
Start Date: 15th January 2027
As part of its ongoing collaboration with COVE (the Collaborative Organization for Virtual Education, covecollective.org), BAVS is launching a COVE research internship (which will bring with it a £2000 honorarium).
The intern will receive training and support from members of the COVE team, and will be expected to undertake a minimum of 100 hours volunteering with COVE. A programme of work will be agreed between the COVE team and the intern. Tasks will include text encoding, data entry, research, the mounting of critical editions, and communication with scholars regarding preferred textual versions of requested texts. Work can to some extent be tailored to the research interests of the student (e.g., specific authors or genres), depending on pressing needs.
Eligibility
The internship is open to postgraduate/postdoctoral members of BAVS with an interest in digital editing, online pedagogy, the curation of images, or the digital humanities more broadly. Knowledge of HTML, TEI, and IIIF are helpful but not required: COVE will provide all necessary training in tools and procedures, knowledge that can later benefit the intern in diverse career tracks or in their own scholarship.
(For the purposes of this internship, all BAVS members who are students enrolled on masters or PhD programmes, or within three years of the award of a doctorate will be eligible.)
Further Enquiries Questions can be directed to Prof. Dino Franco Felluga (felluga@purdue.edu).
Application Process
There is no formal application form. Applicants should send a short CV (no longer than 2 A4 pages, 11pt font), and a short (max. 300 word) statement outlining (i) relevant skills and previous experience; (ii) how the internship would support their career development and (iii) details of any particular projects or aspects of COVE they would be especially interested in contributing to, to Clare Horrocks, BAVS Secretary, via email to secretary@bavs.ac.uk. Deadline for applications: Monday 9th November. In judging applications, the internship panel will pay particular attention to the potential of the internship to support the development of scholars committed to interdisciplinary approaches in Victorian Studies.
Timing of Internship
The successful applicant will be notified by 15 January 2027, and be expected to complete the minimum requirements of the internship before the end of 2027.
