EVENT: ‘Hidden Hands: Underexplored Influences and Identities in the Long Nineteenth Century’ Online Conference
Booking now open for ‘Hidden Hands: Underexplored Influences and Identities in the Long Nineteenth Century’ online conference
Bringing together researchers and academics from various disciplines, this conference asks what becomes visible when we look beyond the most familiar actors, institutions, and narratives of the nineteenth century.
Join us to explore the hidden, overlooked, and indirect influences and identities of the long nineteenth century. We are delighted to be able to share a rich and varied full-day programme of talks, featuring papers from academics and researchers exploring the lesser-known aspects of the nineteenth century.
What forces and figures were operating beneath the surface of nineteenth-century life? Obscure networks and intermediaries, private correspondence, marginalised voices, and the less visible structures through which ideas and practices circulated. Papers will explore these themes as they relate to literature, art, religion, politics, women’s histories, working-class histories, queer histories, innovative methodologies, and the concept of identity.
This event is FREE and will take place via Microsoft Teams on Friday 20 November 9am-5pm UK time (GMT). A provisional programme can be found on the Eventbrite listing; the final programme will be circulated to attendees before the event. The joining link will also be sent out following registration, nearer to the event.
We are pleased to welcome Dr Ilaria Scaglia, Head of Aston University Archives and Senior Lecturer in Modern History, as conference keynote.
