Research interests:
I study the letters, diaries and writings of a Victorian convert clergyman and educationalist John Henry Newman (1801-1890). He was canonized in 2019 and made a Doctor of the Church in 2025. I write, in particular, about his humanity which is a neglected area of scholarship. I also focus on his letters about bereavement and his support of others in grief themselves. I collaborate on projects connected with Newman and those based on Catholic theology, literature, ecological thought and the late nineteenth century.
