You are warmly invited to join the Enemy Encounters project and the IWM Institute on 19-21 July 2021 for an online conference exploring views of enmity and allegiance in modern warfare. This three-day event will feature a broad, interdisciplinary range of approaches to experiences and representations of the enemy, with a particular focus on how the ‘other’ side is presented in museums, in first person writings, journalism, literature, art, performance, film and photography. Covering topics including medical neutrality, prisoners of war, sexual violence, counterinsurgency, reconciliation, and moral injury, the conference will explore how first person and creative responses work to reframe shifting understandings of the enemy, past and present.
The conference is free, but please register online here (https://www.crowdcast.io/e/n2l6fdtw/register) to attend. The full programme is available on the registration page.
Convenors: Professor Holly Furneaux and Dr Matilda Greig, Cardiff University
All times are in British Summer Time (GMT+1).
