EVENT: Booking open for Dickens Day – ‘Dickens and Family’

Coinciding with the 180th anniversary of the publication of Dombey and Son in October 1846, the day will focus on how the concept of family informed Dickens’s life and works. The day begins with a brilliant opening plenary panel dedicated to ‘Dickens and Women’, and closes with a talk and dramatic reading by Malcolm Andrews on ‘Michael Slater and the Culture of Dickens Studies’. In between, we have parallel panels on social commentary, families in Great Expectations, surrogate families, and ‘The Child’s Progress’, as well as themed readings from Dickens’s work.
