In the past few weeks, the BAVS committee have been working hard behind the scenes to implement financial support for those members adversely affected by COVID. Using the BAVS emergency reserve fund, the first stage of this will be 5 x £400 hardship bursaries targeted at those struggling to cover the cost of the most basic needs as a result of financial hardship (such as those on casual/temporary contracts who have not been eligible for government assistance and those who have had to significantly reduce their paid work due to childcare responsibilities). However, we know that this is only a drop in the ocean and there is much more to do. Therefore, as well as looking to raise funds elsewhere, we are asking for your help. BAVS aims to raise at least £10,000 in the coming months to support a further 25 applications. A gift of £5, £10, £25, £50, £100, £200, or, if you can, fully funding a £400 bursary will make a huge difference to those struggling. Please give if you can.
Donations can be made via just giving: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/bavshardshipbursaries
In the very unlikely event of attracting more funds than applications, we shall issue further calls for applications over the course of the following academic year, in expectation that others will experience financial hardship as events continue to unfold.
If you have any questions about donating, please do not hesitate to contact Vicky Holmes on the following email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Finally, for those planning on applying for the hardship grant, please keep an eye on your email and social media in the coming weeks. There will be only a short window for the first round of applications.
