Harper-Schmidt Fellows join our Society of Fellows in the Liberal Arts on campus, where they teach first
year courses in the Humanities Core and receive excellent compensation, considerable research support
and mentorship, and regular opportunities for social and professional fellowship both within the
program and with other colleagues on campus.
Although many UChicago Humanities Core instructional sequences feature more-or-less set reading lists,
successful applicants do not always need to have conventional expertise in the specific texts and topics
currently taught. Rather, we welcome applicants from a wide variety of disciplinary backgrounds who
will bring conceptual and methodological creativity and skill to the teaching of general education
courses while also contributing to our research community.
If you are familiar with our application process from previous years, please note that we recently revised
the list of materials required for the initial application stage to make this first step as simple as
reasonably possible.
For more details about the program and to submit an application, please see the Society of Fellows
application website: https://fellows.uchicago.edu/
Please direct any questions you may have about the position to fellows@uchicago.edu.
